Activity 5
Activity 5 - Software, Hardware
and Networks:
1. Which would you rather have—a
handheld computer or a tablet computer? Why?
I’d
rather want to have a tablet computer.
Although handheld computers are smaller and occupy less space, I still
want a tablet computer because it gives me a better view because it has a
bigger screen compared to a handheld computer.
Applications are also easier to view and use because the tablet is
bigger as well, the options are not that crowded and compressed.
2. If cost were not an issue,
describe the characteristics of your ideal computer. What would you use it for?
Which operating system would you want it to run?
I
want to use a computer for gaming purposes.
In the first place, I was into computers because of gaming. The characteristics of my ideal computer
would be mainly a core i7 processor, 1TB hard drive, 16-32GB RAM and 8GB Video
Card. That four is the basic
characteristics of my ideal computer which allows me to play even the heaviest
type of game available as of now.
Microsoft OS will be my preferred OS for my ideal computer, specifically
Windows 7.
3. Define Software as a Service.
Discuss some of the pros and cons of using software as a service.
Software
as a Service allows organizations to access business functionality at a cost
typically less than paying for licensed applications since
Software as a Service pricing is based on a monthly fee. It is also hosted remotely so the hardware investment
won’t be necessary.
PROS:
· It cost less
· It is easier to maintain
CONS:
· Communication(requires the internet)
· Data Security
4. Why is an organization that employs
centralized processing likely to have a different management decision-making
philosophy than an organization that employs distributed processing?
A
centralized processing only has one management that is the one responsible for
decision-making philosophy because it is centralized. A distributed processing cannot have only one
management to be responsible for the different branches available because it
will take time and the efficiency of each processes must be efficient enough
equally with each other.
5. Social networks are being widely used
today. Describe how this technology could be used in a business setting. Are
there any drawbacks or limitations to using social networks in a business
setting?
The
social networking sites now allows advertisements in some parts of their web
page, example would be facebook. It can
be used in a business setting because it allows entrepreneurs to publish and
advertise their products or services in the web through the social networking
site that can be seen by almost everyone.
It can increase their market reach and might help their sales to
increase. The drawbacks of this type of
business setting is that not all that inquires are buyers and also the sellers
can also be scammers as well. Security
will be an issue and both the buyers and sellers must be careful in transacting
through the web based business setting.
6. One of the key issues
associated with the development of a Web site is getting people to visit it. If
you were developing a Web site, how would you inform others about it and make
it interesting enough that they would return and tell others about it?
First
is to develop a web site that is the current trend that fits the people. As of now, social networking sites or social media
is the current trend. One must not only
develop a social networking site with the same features of the other social
networking sites available. You can
start by informing your friends about it and even publish or advertise it in
other social networking sites for others to be curious and informed about
it. That is the time in which they can
know what the site is all about and depending if they enjoyed or they snubbed your
site will determine if they will tell others about it.
